Odom is Board of Lady Managers of the Columbian Exposition Professor of Chemistry in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.The findings were published this week by the journal Nature Communications.
On Monday Dallas police said 22-year-old Kenneth Santodomingo admitted to pointing his Blue Laser Pointer 10000mw pointer at the department's Air 1 helicopter as it searched an area over Lake June Road. Said Santodomingo, "I wanted to see how far it would go," at which point he was taken to Dallas County jail and charged with Illumination of Aircraft by Intense Light, a violation of the Texas Penal Code. Now he faces federal charges as well.
Records show that late Monday FBI Special Agent Mark Sedwick filed a complaint in Dallas federal court that says Santodomingo "did knowingly aim a laser pointer at an aircraft," which is a federal crime that could land him up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. U.S. Magistrate Judge David Horan signed off on the complaint, as well as the supporting affidavit, and Santodomingo has been taken into federal custody.
The federal documents reiterate the Dallas police report: Sedwick says that at 4:08 Monday morning, two Dallas officers were in Air 1 when the "cockpit of the helicopter was illuminated by a laser pointer" four times, give or take. "The intensity of the light obscured the vision of the pilot and impaired the pilot's ability to control the aircraft,"
