On Thursday, Judge O'Neill sentenced Rodriguez a second time to federal prison, this time for five years — the maximum statutory sentence for shining a Green laser 50mw at an aircraft.

A Hanford man is in custody for shining a laser pointer at a plane. That plane was being operated by the Kings County Sheriff's Department. Authorities say the suspect tracked the aircraft with the Cat VS Laser Pointer for several minutes, temporarily blinding the pilot and spotter on board .

Michael Quair, 45, was arrested Tuesday night. Quair admitted to authorities he was showing his kids that he could shine the Laser Pointer at the airplane, and he did not believe it was a serious offense. Quair was arrested for the felony violation and booked into the Kings County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

 

London City is the second most dangerous airport in the country for attacks on pilots with laser pointers.Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority have revealed 21 incidents took place at LCY from January to March this year, second only to Heathrow.

Shining a laser at a plane became a criminal offence in 2010 in response to a growing number of incidents. Air watchdogs warned at the time that lights from laser pointers could pose a serious safety risk, especially during take-off or landing.
