A New Spiritual Perspective on ADHD and Children

Being a highly sensitive soul can be deeply challenging, but I'm going to explain to you why this is a positive aspect of who you are regarding the evolution of our world.

As a sensitive soul, I was always seeking. When I had matured some, and knew that my emotional history was dictating where I was in my life, I became a neutral observer of my childhood and adolescence. I saw the deep feelings of disconnect, not belonging and frustration that I was the "cause" of but, replica rolex lady datejust oyster perpetual, also had a deep connection to something beyond me that I could not describe. I felt everyone's emotions around me in such a way that I could not separate others' feelings from my own. As a child and teenager, I was feeling the world in a way I did not have language for.

You can imagine the confusion of not knowing where I ended and where someone else began. It was like being an emotional sponge that never gets rung out. After taking on the collective emotions of people, people with whom I interacted (family, friends even strangers), I felt a need for release. Given that I was young and dependent on my parents and teachers for their love and approval, I felt desperate, combustible and misunderstood. I would take on the world and have nowhere to go with it,replica rolex datejust, no way to release it and no way to express it with words. So what did I do? I acted out and created an explosion, a release. Many times this was disruptive, but part of my unconscious intention was to get help, get understanding and visually express how deeply disturbing this experience was.

Children and teens in this same state are often misunderstood. Our actions seem out of control and our behavior often makes no sense. This is because we feel different than you, as we experience a deeper and broader level of emotion. We are expressing the unconscious needs of our world the collective unconscious.

Our world is divided by race, religion, and socioeconomic status. This division can be changed, but it requires a fierce, yet peaceful, shift. As highly sensitive souls we are coming forward in abundance because of the need for a shift, and we MUST feel all we feel. We came into this life exactly as we are so that we could bring a big awareness to the places in our world that are broken and need healing.

My personal story started in the school system. I was seven years old and my mother was a schoolteacher. I was not performing on tests in a way that reflected my intelligence. test to see if I was having intellectual challenges; I was not. was nearly at genius level. Because of this incongruence, I was sent home with the label of ADHD and a prescription for Ritalin that I was to take twice a day, every day. This was (and often still is) used to get kids to focus and follow the ways of the well established educational system.

The problem was, it didn't work. It did, however, create internal stress, identity issues and global incubation. I was expressing a need for change in the school system, like millions of other children and teens diagnosed with ADHD. At the time the educational system only honored one way of learning, one way of testing and one way to gauge intelligence. There was only one form of intelligence being celebrated or even recognized.

A diagnosis is too simple an answer to a complicated system, as there are many factors involved: How can an ADD/ADHD diagnosis help with an unsettled emotional state? How about spiritual intuition? A deep understanding of people that seems to be beyond a child's years? Sure, replica mens rolex datejust,

we can keep diagnosing and prescribing, but what is that doing? How is that getting to the core and essence of the complexities of these children?

Many people whom I have coached and interviewed state that when they were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, they felt discarded. We suffer most when our truth is being compromised, and have a natural instinct about when something is "off."

Behavioral Issues or System Issues?

That which is missing from our educational system, and in my opinion, the void of a global spiritual perspective today, is actually the root cause of the majority of the behavioral problems, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust stainless steel, which we are seeing today in the classroom and at home. As such, the teachers and parents today lack a "universal spiritual picture." That is not our fault; it is simply not how we were raised and not how things have been set up. What I mean by a universal spiritual picture is the understanding of a deeper meaning and purpose of life, self and world. These kids have come into this life with exactly that purpose: to bring a more loving way to the surface and infuse it in everything we do. We do this by being the way we are being authentic. You can see how this forces people into more of an unconditional love. We have a depth of feeling and thinking that differs from those around us. We are in touch with others and ourselves and know a deeper truth sense and way of being, and we are following it. We have a different way in which we naturally perceive the world as we see through the eyes of spirit.

Rather than ADHD, I call these kids Indigo children, system busters or awakened and they are the new paradigm, frontrunners of change and transformation, and will have impact by first becoming self aware, then becoming what we know.

Through my journey of self awakening and realization, I have come to know that no one can heal me, except myself. But first there were years of doubt, labeling, emotional neglect and perfectionist ideals to work through and clear. Once I got to the place of trusting and believing in

my own wisdom, I was no longer just a seer, but a doer, and now serve others as they find their way.

Emotional healing is the first step. Allowing ourselves to feel, we learn to fill a lack of self love and connect with our own spirituality. We can then see that it is no one's fault; if our parents had emotional structure and guidance, they would have given it to us.

The system is flawed, the world is hurting and we can be the example of consciousness rather than the expression of the unconscious.

It is time for a more authentic society where we empower our feelings and each other.

"Indigo children have a natural remembrance of Spiritual Law. We push against that which blocks our heart, binds our mind and numbs our knowing of who we are as divine and right on time." Candace van Dell

Investing in watches Special report

The humble wristwatch has come a long way since its transformation in the trenches of the First World War when the timepiece was moved from pocket to the wrist. From then the wristwatch grew in stature and by the 1950s had become mainstream.

More than a century since the watch migrated from chain to strap, a one off Patek Philippe Reference 1527 Perpetual Calendar wrist watch auctioned by Christies in 2010, sold for a record US$5.7m ( However, the wristwatch still pales in comparison to the more traditional pocket watch in resale value terms, notably enshrined in a piece many collectors revere as the 'holy grail' in watchmaking the 1933 Patek Philippe Henry Graves Super Complication pocket watch.

It is reputed to be the most complicated timepiece ever made: a one off in which the mechanism alone is reported to have taken three years to make.

The piece was also to define the competing spirits of two titans of watch collecting, US banker Henry Graves and James Ward Packard, founder of the Packard Motor Car Company.

Graves had commissioned Patek Philippe in 1925 to create the Super Complication, replica oyster rolex datejust, a piece which carries 24 horological complications and more than 900 parts. Such was the complexity of the piece it was eight years before Graves took delivery.

The piece returned to auction in November neatly coinciding with the 175th anniversary of Patek Philippe and auctioneer Sothebys sold it for a world record 23.2m Swiss francs ( In auction resale terms, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust cost, Patek Philippe is unsurpassed, with 80 of the 100 most expensive watches sold at auction to date bearing the watchmaker's name the key to their high resale value being the relativity small numbers made.

Given the continued uncertainty in the global financial markets, where yields are increasingly scarce, the idea of buying a tangible asset which can gain in value as you wear it is a compelling argument, though for many, buying a high end watch is largely symbolic an heirloom asset to be enjoyed and then passed on to the next generation.

But that's not to say there aren't good investment pieces to be had, and great returns to be made on the right timepiece, only knowing what will be valuable down the line is largely guesswork.

Matthew Finnie is the watch specialist at Finnies the Jeweller in Aberdeen, a family firm which has been trading in the north east for almost 60 years.

He says: "It is true to say prices, replica mens rolex oyster perpetual datejust watch, for the right piece, replica rolex lady datejust oyster perpetual, can increase steadily over time as is the case with most desirable and valuable objects.

"What we would never do is suggest anyone purchases a watch in anticipation of a rapid, short term gain it is very different from other forms of investment.

"First and foremost a watch should be bought to be cherished and enjoyed.

"What they bring in terms of investment is the peace of mind that over a longer term period, if chosen well, they have the potential to hold their value and, in some cases, gain value.

"We have seen several examples of customers who have bought wisely and come back after several years to find their watch has risen in value.

"From my perspective, the great advantage for anyone looking at a watch is that it is something that can be worn and enjoyed for years without impacting upon what it is worth, as long as it is well cared for. How do you put a value on the enjoyment that brings?"

Stuart McDowell, head of watches at Hamilton Inches, says while some watches do perform very well in the short term, he agrees most of the pieces being sold now would be viewed in investment terms as a long term plan.

"The idea of a watch being an heirloom investment to be passed down to the next generation was a marketing campaign devised by Patek Philippe to highlight because they make all the parts in house, they will always repair their watches, regardless of model or the size of the model's manufacturing run.

"There are some brands which will reach a certain age and the company will say they can no longer repair, so what Patek Philippe was conveying to the customer with the passing down through the generations marketing ploy was the idea their watches would always be a functioning piece and could always be repaired, and that is one of the main drivers of their pricing, in that they can still repair watches they made more than 100 years ago."

The experts agree, however, the scarcity of a particular model will correspondingly make it a target for the collector, many of whom have the means to push up the value in their pursuit of the rarest of models.

Some investment targets will be more obvious than others.

Take, for example, the Rolex probably the most instantly recognisable of the high end timepiece makers and, correspondingly, also one of the most collectable.

Some early and limited edition examples can command sizeable returns for the mindful collector.

In November 2013, a collection of 50 Rolex Oyster Daytonas sold at auction in Geneva for a combined value of US$13.2m ( A watch with history attached will also stand out from similar models in value terms.

A sale of a Rolex watch owned by an RAF pilot who had been imprisoned in the Stalag Luft III camp in Germany made famous in the film The Great Escape was sold in 2013 to a private buyer for And an Omega watch which once belonged to Elvis Presley sold in 2012 for just over But as McDowell points out, the idea of exclusivity has, in some cases, been abused by makers even in top end watchmaking.

"It is getting harder to find exclusive pieces, but we have seen in recent years some brands abuse the limited edition offering.

"By that I mean calling a piece limited edition and then going on to create say 10,000 of that piece.

Aftermarket Car A

This year I didn't want to sweat it out like last year, but the cost and age still make it a big risk and I don't have the money to gamble. Plus, any repair expense would be lost when the vehicle is sold or scrapped. All I get out of fixing the a/c is cool air for a while.

I have seen conversion vans with window a/c's that had a genset on the van to power them. It would be cheaper to fix the a/c than to go that way. I have 2 sine wave inverters that see occasional use and had already wired one to the van for light duty tool use. That 600 watt inverter was not even close to being able to power a 5k BTU 120v window a/c. The other inverter, a 1k watt ProSine inverter from Home Depot was theoretically large enough, so I went ahead and went back to Home Depot and bought the smallest/cheapest window a/c they sold, an LG LW5015E.

The inverter is connected to the battery with a set of jumper cables I cut the clamps off. The small white box in line with the red wire is a 175 amp fusible link as a fail safe in case something shorts. The disconnect switch is one I salvaged off a broken portable car jump starter. If I need to disconnect the inverter I don't have to undo battery terminals that way, oyster datejust rolex replica.

The LG window a/c wouldn't budge when I tried to run it. The compressor just hummed and the inverter overloaded multiple ways, so I asked some people at an off grid forum I am a member of for advice.

I got 2 suggestions. The inverter was not mounted next to the battery to keep it away from the heat and vibration under the hood. Mounting next to the battery keeps the low voltage dc feed short, but would eventually ruin the expensive inverter.

So,replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust cost, the first fix was to buy a 12v super capacitor assembly from eBay and mount it next to the inverter [which rests on the front passenger seat most of the time]. The super cap assembly I chose can actually start the vehicle. There is a youtube video of someone starting a V8 Dodge Charger with that assembly. It has 6 370F D cell caps and overvoltage/charge balancing circuits. The supercap assembly is housed in a plastic project box from Radio Shack because there are exposed connection on the bottom of the circuit board. Shorting out a 6 pack of 370F caps would make quite a bang.

After connecting the supercap array to the inverter, the inverter would still not start the window a/c, but the only fault it gave was that it took too long. The inverter is supposed to be able to push 2k watts for about 1 second before going into overload. I had to find a way to either get the start current down or shorten the compressor run up.

The other suggestion I got was to buy a start boost cap with a PTC and relay. If the start boost cap stayed in the circuit it would eventually fry either the start or run windings of the compressor. Brand new from eBay the correct start boost cap relay was only $10 shipped. It has piggyback disconnects so no cutting or splicing of wires has to be done. The instructions say to connect it in parallel with the existing run capacitor on the a/c. The window a/c has a wiring diagram under the cover and it was a simple fix. The start boost cap was mounted on the outside of the a/c because of it's size.

After doing both fixes, the window a/c will start and run with no trouble [except if I idle for a long time at night with the lights on]. My van's alternator won't put out that much power at low speed, so at night I have to rest my foot gently on the accelerator to get the idle up a bit to keep it all running. If I don't the inverter simply quits as the van voltage sags.

The next part of this project will be to build a box so the a/c hot side will vent out the sliding window behind the driver, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust for sale. I don't want to mount the a/c through the side of the van as that exposes the coils to vandalism.

For now I have positioned the a/c in a box and cut out the box to make a cardboard plenum to connect the a/c to one of the 2 sliding windows the van has. This places the a/c directly behind the driver's seat. I can still see out the back and sides to view traffic, but cannot access the controls on the a/c. The a/c has no remote control, so the fan is set to low and the dial thermostat is set about middle. When I power on the inverter it starts and runs the a/c. The initial wattage is about 460,rolex oyster perpetual datejust mens replica, but rises to over 600 as the a/c heats up. 600 watts is the edge of what the van's alternator can deliver and requires putting the transmission in neutral and gently resting my foot on the accelerator when I stop for a light or in stop and go traffic. At 35 mph and above it just works.

The little blue and white 12v fan redirects the cold air. The a/c vents were not made to send the air sideways like that.

I am considering putting the a/c behind the gap between the front 2 seats and making a curtain out of a sheet of plastic or clear shower curtain. That would blow cold air in the correct direction and eliminate the need for a cardboard duct and 12v fan.

EDIT: I've added a roof vent, shown in another instructable for venting. I just added a 120 watt solar panel and charge controller to boost my van's electrical output when the sun shines. It's hard to keep the a/c running on alternator power at idle waiting for lights. See the next step for pictures of the final install. I used to have a 5 watt panel that I would plug in while parked at work and set on the roof and even that small panel would overcharge the vehicle battery on sunny days. The charge controller is connected to a 12v 17ah sla like this oneThe controller has to be ballasted with a battery whenever there is a panel connected otherwise the panel voltage would damage the controller. The van has dual a/c, radio and cigarette lighter behind the driver's seat for the second row of passengers. I backfeed the van's main battery through the cigarette lighter from the controller, but the smaller battery stays hardwired at all times to protect the controller.

The back of the panel is riveted to a L shaped aluminum rail cut and drilled to replace one of the van's roof rack rails. The front of the panel is wedged under one of the other original roof rack rails and the remaining rack rails have been removed. There is a small amount of shadowing across the panel from the front rail, but it's effect is minor. There are some strips of peel and stick foam under the panel in places to protect the van roof and keep the assembly tight.

3 types of Wireless Internet

O ne of most exciting new technologies today is Wireless Internet Service. Wireless technology is playing an increasing role in the lives of people around the world. Many persons from doctors and policemen to salespeople and businessmen everyday at offices, at home and on the move use Internet services from cell phones, PDAs, Pocket PCs, laptops, and can not work and live normally without it.

Wireless technology uses as a medium of communication the radio waves that operate in the 3 KHz to 300 GHz range. For comparison, the AM radio band operates in 1 MHz diapason, the FM radio band operates in diapason of 100 MHz, and the GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) band operates in the diapason 1.5 GHz.

Today, 3rd Generation Wireless, or 3G, is the term used for the next generation of wireless or mobile communications systems. 3G systems aim to provide enhanced voice, text and data services to each user. The third generation networks supports real time video, high speed multimedia and mobile Internet access. There is also coming soon a cellular standard should be called as 4G. The fourth generation being championed in Japan will boost the data rates to 20 Mbps. These speeds enable high quality video transmission and rapid download of large music files. The first 4G phones may appear in USA as soon as 2006.

Below we describe the some variety of technologies of modern Wireless Internet mentioning some corresponding Connection standards or Protocols.

Cellular Internet services is based on a cellular architecture that consists of a backbone network with fixed base stations interconnected through a the wired public switched telephone network (PSTN). The geographic area within mobile units (cell phones) can communicate with a particular base station is called a cell . Adjacent cells overlap with each other, thus ensuring continuity of communications when the users move from a territory of one cell to another cell. The users mobile units communicate with each other, as well as with other networks, through the base stations and the backbone network. A set of channels ( radio frequencies) is allocated to each base station. Neighboring cells have to use different channels in order to avoid intolerable interferences. The Global System for Mobile TeleCommunications (GSM) is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world, developed according to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). This Project is a co operation between ETSI ( Europe ), ARIB/TTC ( Japan ), CCSA ( China ), ATIS ( North America ) and TTA ( South Korea ). The based on these project standards make it possible to use the same phones with different companies' services, or even roam into different countries. For these standards both signaling and speech channels are digital. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a mobile data service available to users of GSM mobile phones. It is often described as "2.5G", as a technology between the second (2G) and third (3G) generations of mobile telephony. GPRS was invented with the idea that cell phones can also be computers, e mail and Web browsers and even TV receivers. 3G based on two main standards W CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and CDMA2000 ( Code Division Multiple Access 2000).

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an open international standard for Internet access from very small portable devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. WAP allows users to send and receive emails, get the latest Stock Exchange Indexes, receive all the sport results, and keep up with the latest news headlines.

Wireless Internet services are provided by many companies, for example: International Internet Access Provider , Ace Telecom , Boston Communications Group , Dobson Communications Group , Leap Wireless International, Inc. , and so on.

Lots of places now offer wireless high speed Internet access, including Airports, Hotels, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust value, Coffee Shops, Internet Cafes and Restaurants. These locations are called "HotSpots". Many charge a daily or hourly rate for access, but some are free. Some cities offer free wireless "hot spots" to attract visitors, while businesses are pursuing this wireless in numerous ways. Locations that do not charge for access to Internet are called "FreeSpots". An interconnected area of hot spots and network access points is known as a hot zone. Numerous Web sites offer searchable listings of public Wi Fi hotspots, both free and paid: Jiwire , Wi Fi ZONE Finder , The Hotspot Haven , WiFinder .

HotSpots and FreeSpots used standards of WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network). The most common standard is IEEE 802.11b (also called 'Wi Fi' short for "Wireless Fidelity" ) which offers a connection speed of 11 megabits per second. Other standards are 802.11a (55 megabits per second) and the latest standard '802.11g', which is compatible to 802.11b, but also operates on 55 megabits per second. The three competing groups ( TGnSync , WWiSE and MITMOT) submitting proposals to the IEEE for the 802.11n next generation Wi Fi standard have agreed to work together to create a common and agreed standard. 802.11n is being designed for speeds of 100Mbps and will have a better operating distance than current Wi Fi networks.

A Public Wireless Hotspot is a area where a computer or PDA equipped with a WLAN module can connect to the Internet through Wireless Access Points. A single Access Point can be reached from a distance of no more than 100 200 meters (300 600 ft.), but there also exist Hotspots consisting of hundreds of Access Points which cover entire Airports for example.

A company which installs Hotspots and offers the user a unified access and payment method for WLAN usage is

a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider). Right now, WISPs are being founded all over the world. To find Hotspot location you can use the website Hotspot locations , to find information about this type of service website Hotspot services.

Wi Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a system to secure wireless (Wi Fi) networks, created to patch the security of the previous system, WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).

There are some existed providers of Hotspots systems: T Mobile , Boingo , Gric MobileOffice , CometaNetworks , etc.

Some hotspot are equipped by the PayKiosks terminals that allow users without mobile devices to reach the Internet as easily as they would use a pay phone or an ATM. Usually customers have the choice of either accessing the Internet on the PayKiosks terminal or using the wireless signal transmitted from the terminal to connect their own laptop or PDA. At present, pay per use Internet terminals can only be found in large hotels and airports in major US cities. Huge growth is forecast for this industry and very quickly Internet terminals will be appearing all over North America .

Satellite internet from anywhere

Satellite communication are provided for Rescue services, Maritime industry, Oil, Gas and Mining industry, Transportation and Traveling , Army and Navy, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust womens, and so on. Today this type of communication insures the better quality than traditional radio systems. To receive a Satellite service, user needs an antenna with transmitter aimed at the correct satellite and a very specialized modem which connects to his computer. Two way satellite Internet sends data from remote sites via satellite to a hub, which then sends the data to the Internet. For Satellite Internet everything is possible : to surf the world wide web, to send and receive email and anything else that can do with an dial up, cable or DSL connection. Inexpensive telephone calls [VoIP] are also possible. This 24/7 high speed internet connection is always on. Satellite Internet uses advanced encryption technology to handle sensitive data and protect users privacy, therefore satellite connection is secure and safe from hackers. Two way satellite Internet usually consists of:

Coaxial cables between dish and modem

The satellite dish antenna gets mounted on the wall (balcony, roof, etc.) or near home and connects via coaxial cable to a satellite modem. It may be mounted also on a truck, van, railroad car, trailer, etc.

The television and internet providing satellites are all in geosynchronous orbit, meaning that they stay in one place in the sky relative to the Earth. Each satellite is launched into space at about 7,000 mph (11,000 kph), reaching approximately 22,200 miles (35,700 km) above the Earth. At this speed and altitude, the satellite will revolve around the planet once every 24 hours the same period of time it takes the Earth to make one full rotation. Satellite system providers can use constellation of satellites. For example, Iridium Satellite LLC. uses a constellation of 66 low earth orbiting (LEO) satellites operated by Boeing.

Satellite services are provided for US users from a satellite transponders owned by either SES Americom , Satmex , PanAmSat , Intelsat , Telesat , New Skies , etc or for other continents by Inmarsat , Iridium , and so on.

The satellite antennas are manufactured by a several l companies including Prodelin , Patriot Antenna Systems , Thrane Thrane , the most popular internet modems are provided by iDirect Technologies , Direcway, ViaSat ,mens rolex datejust replica, etc.

Here is a couple words about Inmarsat , that was as the world's first global mobile satellite communications operator and is still the only one to offer a mature range of modern communications services to maritime, land mobile, aeronautical and other users.

Today's Inmarsat system is used by independent service providers to offer a range of voice and multimedia communications. The Inmarsat business strategy is to pursue a range of new opportunities at the convergence of information technology, telecoms and mobility while continuing to serve traditional maritime, replica rolex oyster perpetual datejust blue face, aeronautical, land mobile and remote area markets.

Keystone of the strategy is the new Inmarsat I 4 satellite system, which from 2004 support the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) , offering two powerful and flexible services Mobile ISDN and Mobile Packet Data Service. Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a type of circuit switched telephone network system, designed to allow digital transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper wires, resulting in better quality and higher speeds, than available with analog systems.

The modern communication wireless service providers can uses a combination of all 3 types of wireless Internet, including implementation for VPNs and PANs.

A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is a private communications network usually used within a company, or by several different companies or organizations, communicating over a public network. VPN message traffic is carried on public networking infrastructure ( the Internet) using standard protocols.

Personal area networks (PANs) are short range wireless networks that connect wireless devices to one another. The most dominant form of Personal Area Network technology is Bluetooth, which links wireless devices at very short distances. Bluetooth allows for fast data speeds (between 1Mbps and 2Mbps), but is designed only for peer to peer data transfer.

a Model for the World

This post first appeared in Opera Mundi

According to the UN's World Health Organization, Cuba's health care system is an example for all countries of the world.

The Cuban health system is recognized worldwide for its excellence and its efficiency. Despite extremely limited resources and the dramatic impact caused by the economic sanctions imposed by the United States for more than half a century, Cuba has managed to guarantee access to care for all segments of the population and obtain results similar to those of the most developed nations.

During her recent visit to Havana in July of 2014, Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), impressed by the country's achievements in this field, praised the Cuban health care system: "Cuba is the only country that has a health care system closely linked to research and development. This is the way to go, because human health can only improve through innovation," She also praised "the efforts of the country's leadership for having made health an essential pillar of development" [1].

Cuba's health care system is based on preventive medicine and the results achieved are outstanding. According to Margaret Chan, the world should follow the example of the island in this arena and replace the curative model, inefficient and more expensive, with a prevention based system. "We sincerely hope that all of the world's inhabitants will have access to quality medical services, as they do in Cuba, replica cost of rolex oyster perpetual datejust," she said. [2]

WHO notes that the lack of access to care in the world is by no means a foregone conclusion arising from a lack of resources. It reflects, instead, rolex datejust oyster perpetual replica, a lack of political will on the part of leaders to protect their most vulnerable populations. The organization cites the case of the Caribbean island as the perfect counter example [3]. Moreover, in May 2014, in recognition of the excellence of its health care system, Cuba chaired the 67th World Health Assembly [4].

With an infant mortality rate of 4.2 per thousand births, the Caribbean island is the best performer on the continent and in the Third World generally. This is also demonstrated by the quality of its health care system and the impact it has on the well being of children and pregnant women. The infant mortality rate in Cuba is lower than it is in the United States and is among the lowest in the world. [5]

With a life expectancy of 78 years, Cuba is one of the best performers on the American continent and in the Third World, achieving results similar to those of most developed nations. On the average, Cubans live 30 years longer than their Haitian neighbors. In 2025, Cuba will have the highest proportion of its population over the age of 60 in all of Latin America. [6]

A health system that serves the people of the Third World

Cuban expertise in the field of health also benefits the people of the Third World. Indeed, since 1963, Cuba has sent doctors and other health workers throughout the Third World to treat the poor. Currently, nearly 30,000 Cuban medical staff are working in over 60 countries around the world. [7]

The iconic example of this solidarity with the poorest of the earth is Operation Miracle, rolex oyster perpetual datejust mens replica, a major vision restoration program launched in 2004 by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chvez. This humanitarian campaign, implemented at the continental level under the aegis of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), operates without charge on the Latin American poor who suffer from cataracts and other eye diseases [8].

In a decade, nearly 3.5 million people have had their vision restored through this example of Cuban internationalism. Initially created for Venezuela, this social program was extended to the entire continent with the objective of operating on a total of six million people. In addition to surgery, Mission Miracle, a strategy for improving the program's reach and performance, provides free eyeglasses and contact lenses for people with vision impairment. [9]

In total, nearly 165 Cuban institutions participate in Operation Miracle, which maintains a network of 49 ophthalmological centers and 82 surgical units in 14 countries in Latin America: Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Grenada, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Venezuela and Uruguay. [10]

Cuban medical solidarity also extends to Africa. In 2014, LABIOFAM, the Cuban chemical and biopharmaceutical research institute, launched a vaccination campaign against malaria in no fewer than 15 West African countries. [11] According to WHO, the virus, which affects mostly children, costs the lives of some 630,000 people a year, "most of them children under five living in Africa." The organization emphasizes that "This means that 1,000 young children die every day from malaria [12]."

Similarly, Cuba trains young physicians worldwide in its Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM). Since its inception in 1998, ELAM has graduated more than 20,000 doctors from over 123 countries. Currently, 11,000 young people from over 120 nations follow a career in medicine at the Cuban institution. According to Ban Ki moon, Secretary General of the UN, ELAM is "the world's most advanced medical school." He also praised the Cuban doctors working around the world, including those in Haiti: "They are always the first to arrive and the last to leave. They remain in place after the crises. Cuba can be proud of its health care system, a model for many countries [13]."

In praising Cuba, the World Health Organization stresses that it is possible for Third world countries with limited resources to implement an efficient health care system and provide all segments of the population with social protection worthy of the name. 5 million of cocaine into Kent fields on EU referendum day

Three international drug smugglers who organised for 2.5 million of cocaine to be dropped out of a light aircraft into a field in Kent on the day of the EU referendum vote have been jailed for nearly 40 years.

Jonathan Hart, 50, Andrew Barrett, and Michael Mealing, rolex oyster datejust replica, both 41, arranged the drop off with a Belgium pilot on June 23 last year, searching the countryside for a suitable landing site.

Mealing and Barrett were seen by undercover National Crime Agency officers a week earlier meeting in the beer garden of a Rochester pub, looking at documents about the light aircraft and ordnance survey maps of Kent.

They carried out a reconnaissance trip to the drop off point, then as the country went to the polls to vote out of the European Union, a plane flew over a field near Faversham, Kent, and dropped off the drugs shipment.

Mealing and Hart picked up 31kg package of cocaine, of up to 84 per cent purity, packed into three plastic fuel cans and loaded them into the back of their waiting Land Rover. However, NCA officers were lying in wait and swooped a short time later.

Barrett was arrested later the same day as he transferred the contents of the gang's "stash house" to an associate's home in Garston near Watford, the Old Bailey heard.

Officers found 15kgs of cannabis, worth 150,000,replica used rolex datejust, packed into plastic bags and labelled with brand names including 'Wiggo', 'ammo', and 'Moby Dick'.

They also recovered nearly a kilo of class A drug MDMA, another 18 kilograms of cocaine, and 122,000 in cash.

Judge Stephen Kramer QC today ruled father of three Barrett, who was heavily involved in the meeting with the pilot and went on the reconnaissance trip to the drop site, played a leading role in the drug smuggling operation as he jailed him for 16 years.

He sentenced Mealing to 12 and a half years in prison, and jailed Hart, who has previous convictions for drug dealing, for ten years and nine months.

"This was a sophisticated and commercial operation in which you all played important parts",replica sell rolex oyster perpetual datejust, he said.

"A consignment of cocaine was imported into this country it was expertly concealed in three sealed plastic containers.

The plot was first exposed when Mealing and Barrett met the Belgian pilot, who remains at large, in a pub on June 15, looking at ordnance survey maps and a picture of the light aircraft used in the drop.

The three men met again the following day and visited the proposed drop off point.

Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe said maps were later recovered with several locations marked with the words "good landing".

NCA lay in wait on June 23 as Mealing and Hart picked up the drugs, and moved in on the pair's Land Rover when they pulled into a car park in Faversham.

"Once Mr Barrett knew that Hart and Mealing had been arrested, he decided to remove from any location he was connected with evidence tying him to both the conspiracy as well as the supply of significant commercial quantities and drugs.

"He effectively moved his stash lock stock and barrel in a van to somewhere where he thought it would not be found."

Barrett argued he had a significant role in the plot but was not a leading participant, telling the court a person he refused to name had offered him money to help with the smuggling operation.

But Judge Kramer said Barrett had tried to "play down your role, minimising your involvement", and said he must have had a close link to the source of the drugs.

Steve McIntyre, from the NCA's Border Policing Command, used rolex datejust replica, said cocaine is linked to organised crime, guns, knife crime and child exploitation, and said Mealing, Hart, and Barrett "occupied a place at the start of that chain of harm".

"They attempted to exploit perceived weaknesses in border controls, but working with the police and Border Force we are actively targeting criminals who try to use general aviation and small airfields as a way into the UK."

A starting point between Blues and Bombers

Paul Van Der Haar, Grant Fowler, Glen Hawker, Merv Neagle and Terry Daniher (no. 5), congratulate Neale Daniher (second from right) after his match winning gaol against Carlton in 1981.

Every encounter since has overflowed with passion, not just a little drama and incident, and plenty of outstanding football to boot, the cues followed from that memorable afternoon on an old VFL battlefield.

Essendon, having been mired in mediocrity for most of the 1970s, had little rivalry with anyone at that stage, certainly not Carlton, which had ritually wiped the floor with the Bombers for years, winning 21 of the previous 26 clashes.

AFL Round 18 Team Analysis

The arrival of Kevin Sheedy as coach changed all that. With his playing career at Richmond having cemented his ill feeling towards the Blues, Sheedy played his Dons like a violin. "We thought the Blues were cocky," former Essendon champion Tim Watson would later recall in a column in The Age.

"A number of our side got on all right with them off the field, but they had rubbed our noses in defeat more than once over the preceding few years. 'Sheeds' would wind us up about their blue blood and born to rule attitude, none of which makes sense today, but we were like putty in his hands."

Carlton, in its first season under coach David Parkin, had, along with Collingwood, set the standard all year. Essendon had ridden a roller coaster, the Bombers losing five of their first six, then turning it all around with a string of consecutive wins which kept mounting.

By the time round 20 loomed, the young Bombers had won 13 in a row, the Carlton clash seen as a huge test and a potential grand final preview, and nearly 37,000 people crammed in to bursting point to see how they'd fare. And for 90 per cent of the afternoon, things didn't go well for them.

The Blues, led by skipper Mike Fitzpatrick in the ruck, Rod Ashman at his feet and with defenders Des English and Geoff Southby resolute, held the edge all day, gradually building their lead.

Carlton appeared to have driven the final nail into the Essendon coffin when Jim Buckley let loose a barrel from outside 50 metres, the lead 26 points at the 20 minute mark of the final term, Buckley triumphantly hoisted aloft by the Blues' Wayne Johnston.

But there was still life in the Dons. First, Roger Merrett marked and goaled. They attacked again and Paul Vander Haar launched himself to mark strongly, adding another. Now came the controversy.

With the Blues desperately trying to run down the clock, Fitzpatrick marked in defence, walked back and waited. And waited. Until umpire Ian Robinson sensationally pinged him for time wasting, a rare free kick indeed, handing the ball to the Bombers.

Fitzpatrick, these days chairman of the AFL Commission, rolex datejust perpetual oyster replica, recalls how keen Carlton was to prove its superiority that afternoon. The skipper played with a broken hand received the previous week.

"I ignored a couple of leads, certainly I was trying to run the clock down," Fitzpatrick recalled this week. "I thought the worst case was it would be called play on. Then umpire Robinson said: 'I'll have it, please.'

My first thought was that I should just turn around and kick it over the grandstand. It was such an unusual decision."

Only a point resulted from the reversal, but Essendon maintained its momentum and continued to attack. Watson snapped another point, to reduce the gap to 11 points.

Enter Neale Daniher, not having the greatest of afternoons, and switched at three quarter time from defence to attack, rolex gold oyster perpetual datejust replica, brother Terry going the other way.

Neale had already kicked a goal early in the quarter. At the 30 minute mark, he stepped up again, flying sideways into a pack to mark between two Carlton defenders and converting from 30 metres out.

The ball returned to the middle, the time now past 31 minutes. Watson's clearance was smothered and bobbled out towards the wing, where Glenn Hawker paddled it in front of him and threw the ball on his boot.

His tumbled punt landed smack on Daniher's chest, opponent Bruce Doull having slipped while in pursuit. And from a similar distance, Daniher did it again.

The final minute was chaotic. Carlton attacked one last desperate time. Essendon veteran Ron Andrews put his body on the line and was driven into the ground so hard he lost his right boot. It would remain there in the scenes of pandemonium that ensued seconds later after the siren sounded, rolex oyster perpetual datejust womens replica.

The Blues were stunned, the Essendon players and hordes of fans who flooded the ground euphoric. Watson has spoken to scores over the years who'd made an early getaway to beat the traffic, got to their car radios, then bolted back inside realising they might be missing a piece of history.

"From the club's point of view, it was a coming of age," says Daniher. "It's like with a young, emerging team now. You have to beat a top team to be credible in the eyes of the football world. And no better place to do that on Carlton's own dunghill."

But valuable lessons were learnt on both sides. Harsh reality for Essendon, which would lose Daniher to a serious knee injury the following week, lose its final game in driving rain by eight points to Geelong and with it,gold rolex oyster perpetual datejust replica, the double chance, then lose its elimination final to Fitzroy.

Sheedy's side would be a hardened outfit indeed when it finally broke the premiership ice three years later.

Carlton, meanwhile, recovered its poise to win its final two games, downed the Cats in the second semi final, and after another scare, Collingwood in the big one.

Fitzpatrick recalls the events of the Essendon game coming in particularly useful as the Blues again tried to soak up time in the last quarter of the grand final.

And Carlton's pride was well and truly pricked, particularly as Essendon continued its winning ways against the Blues, stringing together 10 in a row from 1981 until late in 1985. The Blues would enjoy getting their own back for most of the rest of the decade, winning seven of their next 10 meetings.

From then on, it's often been the underdog that has risen to the challenge, a better indicator than most that this is a game that matters dearly to both clubs.

Governor responds to

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) Virginia State Sen. Chap Petersen (D Fairfax) told Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell to come clean about gifts he received from donors or resign as governor.

Petersen sent the governor a letter that expressed concern over reports the governor and his family received numerous gifts from Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams. Gifts never reported to the public, rolex submariner used fake, Petersen feared.

"When the disclosure came out, and again this is an allegation, I recognize it's not proven, but the disclosure about the Rolex watch and the shopping spree in Manhattan with clothes being purchased and then appointments being arranged with state officials, that to me was just completely out of line,"Petersen said in a phone interview. "To be honest that came out a week ago and I was waiting for someone to step up and make a statement and essentially call out the governor on it and say listen you got to either deny this or explain it. When nobody was going to do anything, I decided that I was going to write my letter."

Petersensaid he had not yet received an official reply from the Governor's Office about the letter. But at an event Wednesday in Richmond, Governor McDonnell said there is not much he can say.

"It's unfortunate the senator would send a letter, replica rolex oyster perpetual submariner," Governor McDonnell said. "I disagree with many of the assertions in his letter. I think many of the reports he's relying on are incorrect. I'd like to say more, rolex submariner vintage fake, but I think he knows, as well I know, fake rolex submariner date, as some of these reviews are going on that there's a limit to what I can say at this time."

Governor McDonnell said despite the gifts, Williams received no special treatment from the Governor's Office.

"I would like to see the governor come forward on his own volition and give an explanation or give a denial and say that this didn't happen or if it did happen it was really this way that it happened,"Petersen said. "I don't think he can afford to continue to say no comment and pretend that this is a non issue because it is an issue."
