What Are The 3 Main Elements Of Regular Scaffolding?

A temporary framework, Scaffolding is often used in the repair, renovation, maintenance or construction of high-rises, skyscrapers and other huge structures. This suspended personnel platform is generally composed of bamboos or metal pipes. The material of choice for the construction of pipes is metal, in case the site of construction is extremely high above the ground. The metal that is used in Britain for making scaffolding is known as ‘Tube’. In various countries of Asia, bamboos are a popular choice even today, given that these are cheap and easy to avail. In developed nations like the USA, scaffolding suspended access platform mainly has 3 elements. These include:

Standards

These are vertical tubes that are used for transferring the weight of the whole structure to the floor upon which the scaffold rests. ‘Uprights’ are another name given to this kind of scaffolding.

Ledgers

These poles are horizontal in shape, and are used for making connections between standards in suspended working platform.

Transoms

These are kept always in a way that makes them be at 90° to the ledgers. It is commonly found that people put main transoms adjacent to the standards, in order to hold them in position and offer additional backing to the boards. Intermediate transoms connect the main transoms, in order to provide the scaffoldings and boards with additional support.

The primary aim of scaffolding structure is to offer workers a safe temporary suspended platform to work on, while they work in skyscrapers and high-rises. Scaffolding helps satisfy some safety obligations, and it is the authorities who specify the minimum requirements.
