What does it mean to have a computer network? from fieldengineer's blog

what is computer network is an interconnection of various PCs to share a working framework, equipment, and data through a transmission mode between them. There is no limitation to the space between two PCs in an organization.

A PC network includes the accompanying components −

Hubs (Workstations)

The various terminals associated with the organization sharing the organization assets are known as hubs.

Worker

We allocate a particular hub as a principle or focal hub at a notable and lasting location to help the organization. The hub offering the assistance is known as the worker.

Organization Interface Unit

The translator, which associates the worker and numerous hubs, is known as the Network Interface Unit. The organization interface unit is connected to the worker and all workstations to keep up the association.

Components of a Computer Network

The PC network includes the accompanying systems administration components −

Sender

The PC needs to give a message to some centralized server or PCs.

Recipient

The PC takes the information from the sender who wishes to convey.

Correspondence Medium

It is the medium over which the sender associates with the recipient. It very well may be utilized if the distance among sender and collector is less, or it tends to be remote if the distance among sender and recipient is substantially more.

Conventions

It is a bunch of rules which the sender and collector will follow.

Before moving forward with the article and learning more about the types of computer networks, it is important for candidates to understand what is a network and how it affects the functioning of one or more computers connected with each other.

Definition – A group of computers which are connected to each other and follow similar usage protocols for the purpose of sharing information and having communications provided by the networking nodes is called a Computer Network.

A network may be small where it may include just one system or maybe as large as what one may want. The nodes may further be classified into various types. These include:

Personal Computers

Servers

Networking Hardware

General Hosts

Networking can be classified into three types:

Types of Computer Networks

Topology

Interpreters
