Diana's boys don't defend their mother

Diana reassessed: Sexually rejected by Charles who she thought might be gay the Princess desperately sought consolation in a series of affairs

"I feel a moral obligation to the Princess to stand up and say 'this is the way we were'," he said.

"I'm still in that corner waving my flag. Who else is? The Royal Family aren't, her ex husband isn't and sadly her children aren't. So I'm stood there, saying 'this is what I feel passionately about. This is the woman I cared for'."

His cynical criticism of Princes William and Harry, who already regard him beneath contempt for previous revelations about their mother, left friends and courtiers furious.

"If Paul Burrell is supposed to be the last man out there defending Diana's memory, then God help us all," said one.

A senior palace source added: "His comments are extremely offensive and couldn't be further from the truth.

"The boys have spoken out about their mother on a number of occasions, most recently when an Italian magazine published extremely distressing photographs of their dying mother earlier this summer.

"Harry also launched a charity in memory of his mother earlier this year called Sentebale which means 'forget me not'.

"The reason the boys don't react every time someone pops up with a book or a dinner service to sell is because they don't want to give people like Paul Burrell the oxygen of publicity.

He was appearing to promote The Way We Were, his new book about life with Diana, or 'the Boss' as he calls her, to be published this week.

It includes a series of claims about Diana's romantic liaisons with, among others, playboy Dodi Fayed and surgeon Hasnat Khan. It also includes several intimate photographs of her private apartment at Kensington Palace.

They were taken by Burrell without permission shortly after her death.

Asked to respond to criticism that he was cashing in on 'The Boss's' memory, Burrell insisted: "I thought rather than people tell stories and tell lies about the Princess, I wanted to tell the truth, tell people how she was, who she was and how she felt.

"(You are) damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Friends of William, cartier tank watches replica, 24, and Harry, 21, said they were sickened by the personal nature of his attack on them in order to 'flog' his latest royal 'kiss and tell'.

"No one is fooled with his protestations. This is all about making money out of their mother's memory.

"But attacking the Princess's sons whom she fought tooth and nail to protect when she was alive is an unprecedented low even for him," said one.

Burrell's first book, A Royal Duty, made him a millionaire, enabling him to buy a luxurious holiday home in Florida.

He also started wearing an ostentatious 60,000 diamond Cartier earring.

Its publication in 2003 so disgusted the young Princes that they issued their first ever joint statement.

In it they spoke of their dismay at Burrell's revelations, saying: "We cannot believe that Paul, who was entrusted with so much, could abuse his position in such a cold and overt betrayal."

Burrell issued a statement defending his comments, cartier tank ladies watch price, saying he was "emphatically not criticising either Prince William or Prince Harry".

"I was simply making an observation in response to a question that it seems odd that I, as opposed to those from within the Royal Family, appear to be the most ardent, consistent and passionate defender of the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales.

"Far from criticising William and Harry, my commemorative book celebrates a mother's love for her boys and recalls countless happy childhood memories.

"It is a book that is a warm tribute to the Princess and does nothing but praise the young Princes, cartier ballon bleu stainless steel copy."

Burrell has justified his decision to 'sell out' by claiming the Royal Family let him down when he was put on trial for the theft of hundreds of Diana's possessions in 2002,replica cartier ballon bleu stainless steel.

The case collapsed after the Queen intervened at the last minute, saying she suddenly remembered Burrell telling her he had taken the items for safe keeping.
